Covid 19 Information

Booking Vaccinations at the Clinic

We are excited to announce we are able to offer mRNA Covid 19 vaccinations to eligible people, including those who are not regular patients of the clinic.  We currently have  Moderna vaccine and will be receiving Pfizer shipments as well in the upcoming weeks.  Due to how the vaccine is packaged, we can only do this with booked appointments.

Please call 403-638-4433 to schedule an appointment.

Clinic Procedures

Throughout the Covid 19 pandemic, we at the Moose & Squirrel Medical Clinic have stayed open to serve the medical needs of our patients.  However, we have had to modify the way in which we provide care in order to mitigate risk to our patients and staff.

When you book your appointment, you may wish to consider a virtual appointment by phone rather than an in-person appointment if your needs can be met that way.  Our skilled nurses are available to help you determine the best way for your care to be met.

Upon arrival to our clinic, you will be screened with a verbal questionnaire and a temperature check.  If you answer yes to the screening questions, you will still be seen but your appointment may be modified to minimize risk to staff and other patients.  In accordance with Public Health orders, mask use is mandatory for all patients and staff while in the clinic.

We have the ability to offer Rapid Covid Testing to our patients for a $10 fee.  Your preliminary results will be available within 15 minutes.  A negative test does require confirmation in the lab and you must remain in isolation as per AHS guidelines.

Each of our medical exam rooms has a separate Heat Recovery Ventilation System which continuously exchanges warmed fresh air into the exam room at a rate of 6 exchanges per hour.  This has been shown to significantly reduce indoor airborne spread of viruses including Covid 19.  In addition, all instruments, furniture and high touch surfaces are disinfected after each visit.  All staff wear appropriate personal protective equipment in the clinic.

Debunking Myths

There is so much information coming out about the COVID-19 vaccines that we wanted to set the record straight on a few of the myths we are hearing about.

None of the COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in Canada contain the live virus that causes COVID-19. The vaccine cannot make you sick with COVID-19.

No. Injecting mRNA into a person does not change the DNA of a human cell. mRNA is simply a message that the body reads.  Think of this as a wanted poster for COVID-19.  Now your body knows what it looks like!  The wanted poster breaks down quickly but your body remembers what to look for.

We’ve only known slow vaccine development. A lot of time is wasted between research stages. Global funding for COVID vaccine allowed for huge, well-run trials. mRNA vaccines are also much faster to make than traditional vaccines.

mRNA vaccines are preservative free and only contain the mRNA message, a fatty coating layer to protect the mRNA, PEG (polyethylene glycol”, and a combination of sugar, salt and water.  There are no blood products, animal products or fetal cells.

No. Among the almost 22,000 vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTechCOVID-19 vaccine, there were 4 cases of Bell’s palsy. This number of Bell’s palsy cases is consistent with the expected rate in the general population and did not suggest it was caused by the vaccine.

Millions have been vaccinated safely.  Vaccine side effects occur within 6 weeks and after that the vaccine is gone.  Clinical trial have shown us that the vaccines are safe and we are continuing to study them to know how long they protect for.  There is some evidence vaccination helps sufferers of long haul Covid after effects.
